Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never done Pilates before.  Can I come to a class?

Yes! Pilates is suitable for all levels of fitness. There are several Beginners' classes running - check the "Classes" page for details or contact me for more information. I will happily adapt exercises to suit your level of experience.

What should I wear?

Wear clothing that is comfortable and allows you to move easily. Fitted clothing is preferable so I can see how your body is moving. You can wear socks or go barefoot, but shoes are not necessary.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Please bring your own mat along with you. We sometimes use small equipment in Pilates, eg. bands, rollers, balls, etc. If you have your own equipment please bring it with you - I will let you know in advance if we will be using equipment  in class. If you are new to Pilates and don't have your own mat or equipment just let me know and I can supply it. Any equipment supplied by me will be thoroughly sterilised before and after use. If you decide to commit to a regular class I would ask you to purchase your own mat. It is not essential to purchase a full set of small equipment as alternative exercises can always be given, but if you are a regular attendee I would encourage you to purchase your own equipment and I can recommend brands and suppliers if necessary.

I am recovering from an injury. Can I still do Pilates?

The good news is that Pilates is extremely safe and a great option for rehabilitation from injury. However if you are injured you should obtain clearance from your GP or health professional before commencing Pilates. All new clients must fill in an enrolment form before joining a class so I have any relevant information I may need to be able to plan the best possible class for your needs.

I am pregnant/have just had a baby. Can I do Pilates?

Yes you can. Pilates is excellent for both pre and post-natal women, but you must have GP clearance before commencing. I am not currently running any ante or postnatal classes but please do contact me if you are interested in discussing setting up a new class.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. Private lessons are a great option, whether you are completely new to Pilates or at a more intermediate level and want to focus on developing your skills on a one-to-one basis. For complete beginners a private lesson is recommended before moving into a group class, but this is not always necessary. Please contact me for rates and further information.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Classes numbers are limited so that everyone benefits from some individual attention during the class. You can book via the website.

Terms & Conditions

  • Classes are run in terms of between 4 and 8 weeks. Payment for the full term is required in advance, to confirm your place in the class.

  • There are no refunds for missed classes and missed classes may not be carried over to the next term.

  • Regular clients may attend on a drop-in basis (at the relevant drop-in rate) if they are likely to miss several classes in a term (eg. due to pre-arranged holiday), but only subject to availability. Drop-in classes must be booked no more than 1 week in advance and are not guaranteed.

  • Drop-in classes are only offered to regular clients on an occasional basis and not on an ongoing basis.

  • Booking in advance is essential as class numbers are limited and classes can fill up quickly. Your place is only confirmed when payment has been received. It is not possible to hold places without payment, even for regular attendees.

  • Notice of new term dates and payment information is sent out by email so please ensure that you notify us if your details change. In the event that a class has to be cancelled or the time altered, you will be notified by email and notice will also be posted on the Marina Huxley Pilates social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook).

  • Payment for private 1:1 or 2:1 sessions is required in advance, by bank transfer. A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or change any booked session, to avoid being charged in full.

Catch up classes

  • If you miss a class you are welcome to attend another suitable class as a “catch up class”, provided there is space. Catch up classes must be pre-arranged and it is not possible to just turn up.

  • If you are going to miss a class please provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice in order to qualify for a catch up class. Any less than 24 hours’ notice will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

  • Please let us know by email only (info@marinahuxleypilates.com).  Please do not send SMS, Instagram DMs or Facebook messages.

  • Catch up classes may not be booked more than 1 week in advance.

  • You must have booked and paid for a space in the term to be able to book a catch up class. A catch up class  is an extra class, taken on top of your regular booked class.

  • In your email please state the date and time of your missed class and the date and time of the class you wish to attend.

  • It is preferred that catch up classes are taken within the same term. If this is not possible you may carry your catch up class over to the next term, but after this the class will be lost.

  • If you fail to attend your booked catch up class without giving a minimum of 24 hours’ notice, you forfeit the class.

  • Catch up classes are not guaranteed but every effort will be made to accommodate you.
