We are almost at the end of January already (whaaaat?) and so I thought I'd let you all know what I've been up to this month.
Aside from teaching, which is always pretty full on in January (helloooooo New Year's resolutions!), things have been fairly quiet. This is usually the case for me in January as I like to spend time reflecting on the past year, planning for the coming year, and just re-adjusting to being back at work after the Christmas break. However this year I managed to pick up one of the bugs doing the rounds and I have spent the whole month trying to get rid of it. Very boring!
So I have been busy nourishing my body with all of the good things to try and speed up my recovery.
I have been craving fruit and so I've been all about big bowls of fresh fruit salad for breakfast and snacks. My Nutribullet has also taken a bit of a beating this month. I've stocked up on frozen berries and as soon as my bananas start to get a bit too ripe for my liking they get chopped up and put into a container in the freezer for smoothies. I love adding an extra boost to my smoothies and my favourites are Maca Powder for energy and hormonal balance and Acai Powder for an antioxidant boost and to make my skin glow. I love to sprinkle some bee pollen onto my fruit bowls and smoothies too, and I add chia seeds to pretty much everything!
If you caught my last post you will know that I decided to exclude meat from my diet from 1st January. It is something I had been thinking about for a while and had been eating less and less meat over the course of 2016, so I thought that 2017 was a good time to make it official. So I have been having a great time trying lots of recipes from my new favourite cookbook, "Take One Veg" by Georgina Fuggle. A friend gave me the book for Christmas and I am absolutely loving discovering new combinations of vegetables or just different ways of preparing them. I treated myself to a new tote bag from Under Armour this year. My old bag was literally falling apart at the seams and I was looking for a stylish but roomy replacement to carry all my clobber from class to class. This one is great and ticks all the boxes for me - spacious, plenty of pockets, both inside and out, and minimal branding. It also has 2 over the shoulder straps plus a longer strap to go across the body if needed. Check it out here.
On Friday evening I went along to a Restorative Yoga workshop at my local studio. It was 1 hour 30 minutes of pure relaxation, starting with some lovely slow Yin Yoga and finishing with a Yoga Nidra practice. I don't have a lot of experience with this type of Yoga, but I will definitely be attending this workshop again. I was so completely and utterly chilled when we finished that I floated out of the studio without my bag and had to go back and get it!
Finally (and I'm sure this will come as no surprise), I've been doing lots of Pilates!
