I’ve only just found the time to sit down and write my May Roundup post, and we are already almost half way through June – can someone please tell me how that happened? I haven’t managed to get on the laptop and write quite as many blog posts as I had hoped, but I'll try to improve - promise! I really enjoy writing my monthly roundup posts, remembering the fun things I got up to during the month and promising myself to do more the next month! I was so excited to find out that I made it into the finals of the Muddy Stilettos (Cornwall) 2017 Awards! The nominations were narrowed down to the best 5 local businesses in each category and I managed to make it through in not one, but two categories – “Best Fitness Instructor” and “Best Yoga/Pilates Studio”. Just to get to this stage is an amazing achievement for me and I feel super proud! I’d be so grateful if you could place a vote for me in each of the two categories. I took a short trip to London recently, when I headed back to the Body Control Pilates Studio for some further education. As a Pilates teacher, the learning never stops, and I love it! I attended a 2 day course about conditions and restrictions that commonly affect older people. Such an important subject, and it raised an interesting question – what is old and how do you define it? The population of the UK is ageing. Did you know that there are now more people over the age of 65 than there are under the age of 16? The fastest population increase has been in the number of those aged 85 and over, and current predictions are that by 2031 there will be close to 27 million people aged 50 or over in the UK. Incredible! So we all need to do more Pilates to keep us fit and healthy for as long as possible!
It was wonderful being back in the studio where it all began for me, and to be inspired by the wonderful teachers there. I didn’t have a lot of spare time this trip but I did manage to fit in a few coffees in some of my favourite spots, and a bit of shopping too. I can’t wait to go back again soon!
We took a drive the other week to Enys Gardens near Penryn to see the bluebells. We left it a little late unfortunately and some of the bluebells had already started to die of,f but they were still so beautiful. We had a really lovely, peaceful wander around the grounds, bought some gardening books for the library, and enjoyed a sneaky cream tea in the garden cafe. Enys Gardens is such a beautiful place. Hopefully next year we’ll make it during Bluebell Week to see the beautiful flowers in full bloom.
